When are Stop Payments processed?

Stop Payment Processing Times

Stop Payment requests made via EasyWeb between 5:01 am and 11:59 pm ET, Monday to Friday, will be processed immediately. The applicable Stop Payment fee will be debited from your account at the time the request has been made. Although processing is initiated promptly after the request has been made, TD still requires time to verify the details of your Stop Payment request. This means the Stop Payment is not completed at the time of processing, but that we are gathering the necessary information to ensure we make our best attempt to stop the payment.

Stop Payments made between 12:00 am and 5:00 am ET, Monday to Friday will not be processed until 5:01 am ET. Stop Payment requests made on a non-business day will not be processed until the next business day.

Before requesting a Stop Payment, please note the following:
If the Stop Payment is successful, the cheque will still clear the account and the funds should be returned into the account within two business days.
If there are any other transactions going through the account during this time frame, they will continue to process as per normal.
The timing will affect the balance while the stop is processing and you are still responsible for ensuring there are funds in the account to cover any other transaction or NSF fees will apply.
