TD Bank is a Schedule I chartered bank subject to the provisions of the Bank Act of Canada. It was formed on February 1, 1955 through the amalgamation of The Bank of Toronto, chartered in 1855, and The Dominion Bank, chartered in 1869.
TD Canada Trust
On February 1, 2000, TD Bank Financial Group announced the completion of its
CDN $8 billion acquisition of CT Financial Services Inc. catapulting it from the 5th largest Canadian bank to a leader in most of its retail businesses. As a result of this acquisition, the retail banking operations of TD Bank and Canada Trust will combine to become Canada's premier retail banking organization - TD Canada Trust. Integration of TD Bank and Canada Trust branches will not begin until February 2001.
TD Canada Trust is TD's customer-focused retail arm, providing a broad array of financial services and products including electronic banking, web banking, access to over 3000 Automated Banking Machines and servicing more than 10 million customers across Canada.
TD Waterhouse Bank is the largest Canadian owned U.S.-based electronic bank to offer a full suite of U.S. products, services, and access channels. TD Waterhouse Bank is a member of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and is a wholly owned subsidiary of TD Bank and a division of TD Canada Trust.

TD's discount brokerage business - TD Waterhouse - is the world's second largest discount brokerage with more than 3.6 million customer accounts and operations in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia and India.
TD Waterhouse Group, Inc. trades on the New York Stock Exchange and The Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol "TWE" following the completion in June 1999, of a CDN $1.5 billion (US $1.042 Billion) initial public offering of 11.53% of the company's common stock.

TD Securities provides issuing, borrowing and investing clients a full range of services in key areas of finance: investment banking (which includes merchant banking, corporate banking and syndications), debt capital markets, derivative products, equities, and foreign exchanges.
