Who is eligible?
- As a TD Bank Financial Group customer aged 18 to 64, You, Your Spouse and Your Dependent Children are eligible for the Critical Accident Recovery Plan Plus as described below
- You, Your Spouse and Your Dependent Children are also eligible for the Optional Accidental Death Insurance Coverage
Acceptance guaranteed. No medical required to obtain coverage.
- Every TD Bank Financial Group customer aged 18 to 64 who enrolls will be accepted regardless of health or occupation. There are no medical questions or a physical examination required because this plan covers accidents only

Insurance provisions
Critical Accident coverage is in force 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, anywhere in the world.
Critical or Severe Accident Benefit
Up to $150,000 in one lump sum. The Principal Amount of the coverage is $150,000.
A lump-sum payment of 100% of the Principal Amount for -
- Total paralysis of both upper and lower limbs (Quadriplegia)
- Total paralysis of the lower limbs (Paraplegia)
- Total paralysis of upper and lower limbs of one side of
body (Hemiplegia)
- Third degree burn to 20% of body
- Loss of both hands
- Loss of both feet
- Loss of entire sight of both eyes
- Loss of one hand and one foot
- Loss of one hand and Loss of entire sight of one eye
- Loss of speech and Loss of hearing in both ears
A lump-sum payment of 50% of the Principal Amount for -
- Brain damage
- Third degree burn to 50% of face or head
- Coma
- Loss of hearing in both ears
- Loss of speech
- Loss of one hand
- Loss of one foot
- Loss of entire sight of one eye
A lump-sum payment of 25% of the Principal Amount for -
- Third degree burn to 10% of body
- Loss of four fingers of any hand
- Loss of thumb and index finger of the same hand
- Loss of all toes of one foot
- Loss of hearing in one ear
All covered injuries must be caused by an accident, independently of any other causes, and which occurs within 365 days of the accident.
Broken Bone Benefit -
A lump sum payment of $3,000 if an insured person breaks a bone as a direct result of an accident. The following are the eligible bones:
- Main bone in thigh (femur)
- Inner and thicker bone in the lower leg (tibia)
- Outer and thinner bone in the lower leg (fibula)
- Spinal column (spine)
- Longer of the upper arm bones (humerus)
- Shorter and thicker bone in the forearm on the side of the thumb (radius)
- Longer bone in the forearm (ulna)
- Breastbone (sternum)
- Bone near the bottom of the spine formed by the hip bones on the front sides, and the sacrum (small triangular bone) on the back (pelvis)
- Bones of hand or foot (except fingers and toes)
- Bone at the front of the shoulder (clavicle)
- Kneecap (patella)
- Bone at the back of the shoulder (scapula)
Hospital Indemnity Benefit -
- Up to $73,000 in daily hospitalization benefits
- $200 per day for up to 365 days spent in a Canadian hospital due to an accident
- Hospitalization benefits start from the FIRST DAY of hospitalization
Limitations
Coverage (Principal Sum and Daily Benefit) is reduced by 50% at age 65 and ceases at age 75.
Spousal Discount
If You and Your Spouse choose to purchase coverage, each will receive full coverage as above; however, Your Spouse will receive almost a 50% discount in premiums when purchasing insurance at the same time as You.
Your monthly premium rates under the group policy
Premiums are guaranteed to remain the same unless they change for all customers insured under the group policy. The coverage is reduced by 50% at age 65 and ceases at age 75.

Exclusions
Any loss caused or contributed to by an illness or sickness shall not be considered to be caused directly by an Accident independently of other causes and no benefits will be paid.
No benefits shall be paid if any loss or period of Hospitalization is caused by or results from events transpiring during the commission by the Insured Person, or an attempted commission, of a criminal offence (including driving a motor vehicle while legally intoxicated).
In addition, no benefits shall be paid if any loss or period of Hospitalization is caused by or results from any one or more of the following:
- Suicide, attempted suicide, or intentionally self-inflicted injury
- Bodily or mental infirmity or disease of any kind, including but not limited to stress and diabetes
- An injury that has no external and visible wound or contusion
- Medical or surgical treatment or complications arising therefrom, except when required as a direct result of an accidental and external bodily injury
- Infection, unless the infection occurs as a direct result of an accident and external bodily injury
- War, declared or undeclared or any act thereof
- Participation in professional sports, any speed contest, SCUBA diving unless you hold a basic SCUBA designation from a certified school, parachuting, hang gliding, bungee jumping, or skydiving
- Air travel as a pilot or crew member of any conveyance used for aerial navigation
- Resulting from the use of illegal or illicit drugs or substances, or misuse of medication obtained with or without a prescription
Optional Accidental Death Protection
- Available at the same time $50,000 of Optional Accidental Death Insurance coverage for only $3.50 a month ($5.25 for You and Your Spouse)
- Optional Accidental Death Insurance coverage is also available for all Your Dependent Children for $1 a month
Beneficiary for Optional Accidental Death Benefit
- You have the right to name a beneficiary for the Optional Accidental Death Benefit
- You will be able to indicate Your choice of beneficiary on the Beneficiary Form that will be included with Your Certificate of Insurance once you have enrolled
- Your Spouse's beneficiary is You
- Unless changed by the Insured, the beneficiary shall be the Insured's Estate
Definitions in this document
"You" refers to a TD Bank Financial Group customer who is aged 18 to 64 and named in the enrollment process.
"Your Spouse" refers to any person to whom You are lawfully married or Your designated partner who has lived with You for at least two years and is publicly presented as Your husband or wife.
"Your Dependent Children" refers to any natural child, stepchild, or legally adopted child of Yours residing in Canada who is:
- under 22 years of age, unmarried, and receives full support and maintenance from You, or
- 22 years of age but less than 25 years of age, unmarried, and receives full support and maintenance from You for reason of full-time attendance at an accredited institute, college or university in Canada, or
- receives full support and maintenance from You by reason of mental or physical infirmity.
Notwithstanding the above limitations, the definition shall also include a child of Your Spouse who is in the care, custody and control of You and living in a parent-child relationship with You.
"We" or "Us" refers to TD Life Insurance Company, a life insurance company, wholly-owned by The Toronto-Dominion Bank, and/or Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada, as applicable.
