IMPORTANT – Before beginning the download
process make sure you EXIT all other programs. For example, it is extremely important to close any ANTIVIRUS
programs (i.e. Norton Utilities, MacAfee, Doctor Watson) before
downloading Netscape. Disabling the virus program (an option
selected from within these software packages) is NOT sufficient as
this may cause the download file to be corrupted. |

- What is Encryption?
Encryption is the process of converting
information into a more secure format for transmission. This means
that plain text is converted to a scrambled code while transmitted,
and then decrypted back to plain text at the receiving end of the
transmission.
 - What is the difference between 128 and 40-bit encryption?
128-bit encryption provides a significantly
greater amount of cryptographic protection over 40-bit encryption.
128-bit and 40-bit encryption refers to the size of the key used to
encrypt the message. Roughly speaking, 128-bit encryption is
STRONGER (309,485,009,821,345,068,724,781,056 times) than 40-bit
encryption. 40-bit encryption is not considered
"strong" security in the cryptographic
community.
 - How do I determine if I have 128-bit encryption for Internet
Explorer 5.5 or below?
TD Bank Financial Group does not support
Internet Explorer 5.5 or below. In order to use EasyWeb or Web
Broker, we recommend upgrading your browser to version 5.5 or
higher from Microsoft's website.
 - How do I determine if my browser has 128-bit encryption?
For Netscape Users: Netscape for Windows
lists its security level in its Help menu, under "About
Netscape". In the Mac version, it is listed under the Apple
icon. In the section market RSA Encryption, a sentence in bold
describes either U.S. or International security. The US refers to
128-bit and International to 40-bit encryption. For Internet Explorer Users: Internet Explorer 5.5 and higher
lists the security in its Help menu, under "About Internet
Explorer". In the section marked 'Cipher strength' it will
say 128-bit, if you have a 128-bit browser. High encryption is
included in the latest versions of the Internet Explorer browser.
Internet Explorer 5.5 includes 128-bit encryption.
 - What other help can I get?
If after reading through this site, you are
still having problems and would like assistance with downloading
128-bit encryption, please call EasyLine telephone banking at
1-866-222-3456 - open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. WebBroker
clients should call the Electronic Brokerage Services Help Desk
available 24 hours a day, at 1-800-667-6299.
 - How long will it take to download?
IE requires a small file to be downloaded
and as a rule of thumb takes just a few minutes. Netscape requires
the whole browser to be downloaded unless you are a SmartUpdate
client. As a rough guide for Netscape: - T1/T3: less than 10 minutes
- ADSL: 5 to 10 minutes
- Cable Modem about 15-30 minutes
- 33.6K or 56K Modems: 1.5 to 3 hours depending on
server occupancy.
- 28.8 or lower: 3 to 5 hours
- Use a quality anti-virus program as often as
possible, and update it regularly.
 - What else is TD doing to protect my privacy on the web?
TD Bank Financial Group has firewalls and
other internal encryption techniques. A firewall is essentially an
electronic boundary that prevents unauthorized access to certain
files. We also regularly monitor internal systems for security
breaches and are always keeping up with the latest security and
encryption technology. In addition you will be logged out of
EasyWeb or WebBroker if there has not been any activity for 20
minutes.
 - Are there other things I can do to protect my privacy over the
Internet?
Click here for further information on what
you can do to protect your privacy.
 - If TD Bank Financial Group requires me to have this level of
encryption, then why don't you provide it?
To use EasyWeb or WebBroker you are
required to have certain minimum hardware and software
requirements. The 128-bit encryption is a part of these
requirements - just like having a computer and an Internet
connection. Many of you already have 128-bit encryption which came
as a part of the software bundle with your computer or it was
provided by your ISP. Others have gotten it as a part of another
software purchase such as Personal Financial Management (PFM)
software like Quicken.
 - What information should I provide to the EasyWeb or WebBroker
Help Desk Representative to better allow them to help me download
128-bit encryption or a new browser?
Inform them of the browser you are
currently using. Both Microsoft and Netscape have limited the
number of browsers that you can download and/or update. If you are
using an old browser you must upgrade the browser to a more recent
version. This then may result in two downloads, one for the web
browser and a second for the 128-bit encryption.
