How to Place a Trade

Apply Now Currencies You Can Trade In

Canadian and U.S. Dollars

You may hold your assets in Canadian or U.S. dollars, or both. When trading, it's important that you always specify the currency in which you wish to trade - and whether or not you wish TD Waterhouse to convert the funds you have available to cover a trade. Otherwise, your account may incur a debit for which you will be charged interest.

Please ensure your request for a foreign exchange conversion is given to us by 4:00 p.m. ET for transactions greater than $60,000 U.S. For transactions less than $60,000 U.S., the deadline is 5:00 p.m. ET.

Important Reminder: Transferring funds between your Canadian and US accounts

TD Waterhouse cannot automatically transfer funds between the Canadian and U.S. sides of your account to cover trades. Therefore, please ask us to make this transfer on your behalf. If applicable, also indicate to an Investment Representative whether you will call later to sell money market instruments to cover the trade, or whether you would like a Representative to do it on your behalf.
