- Estimate how much you need to save
- Choose a contribution schedule that fits your budget
- Apply for an RESP loan, if necessary, to get you started
- Decide on an individual or family plan
- Get the government grants you're eligible for
- Choose the option that's right for you:
2. By mail (for a TD Mutual Funds RESP)
If you are opening a TD Mutual Funds RESP, you can also choose to download and complete the RESP forms and return them by mail.
Your documents checklist
If you open an RESP at any TD Canada Trust branch, please bring these documents with you:
- The beneficiary's social insurance number (SIN) and address.
(SIN application forms can be found at www.hrsdc.gc.ca)
- Your SIN and photo ID
- Details about the account you will be withdrawing from if you are setting up regular contributions to the RESP
- Your RESP statement if you are transferring an existing RESP
