Exploring the POS-sibilities?
Make sure your terminal is right for you Today's consumers expect convenience and value in the marketplace - even when they're at the checkout counter. A smooth-running payment operation can help you meet these expectations and better serve your customers. The ideal point-of-sale (POS) terminal is the one whose features meet your needs and the needs of your customers. Know your customers' needs Knowing which payment options best meet the needs of your customers and accepting as many of these cards as possible will improve the service you offer, which can potentially increase sales. For example, retail operations may rely on major credit cards and Interac** Direct Payment to serve their customers, while businesses in the restaurant and hospitality industries may also wish to offer specialty dining cards, such as Diners Club/enRoute®4. Merchants on the move - such as couriers and contractors - can better serve their customers by taking advantage of the portability and convenience of hand-held wireless POS terminals. Wireless terminals allow customers to use their debit or credit cards virtually anywhere¤ - whether it's on a restaurant patio, in a taxi or at a garden centre. Accepting payments on the go can also expand customer base and boost sales. Ongoing support To keep your business running smoothly, the payment system you choose needs to be reliable and easy to use. TD Canada Trust installs most terminals to help you get started without any problems. You'll also receive training on how to use our terminals, advice on how to prevent fraud and chargebacks, and an easy-to-use reference guide. If you ever have any questions, the toll-free Help Desk is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We also provide same-day on-site service (if the call is placed before 4:00 p.m.) in most major centres (except on Christmas Day). If your terminal can't be repaired right away, a replacement terminal will be provided. White Label terminals If you 're considering a "White Label" terminal, be sure you're aware of the potential drawbacks. White Label terminals are provided by third-party companies rather than Canadian banks. Shoppers usually pay a fee for using one, which can range up to $2.00, or more, per transaction. This additional cost may discourage some of your customers, the potential results being decreased customer satisfaction and reduced sales. Merchants are usually required to buy or lease these machines instead of renting them, so you are responsible for updating the technology or servicing the machinery if anything goes wrong. Service agreements can be costly, and repairs may take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. These terminals may seem appealing in the short term, but it's wise to consider their potential long-term impact on your sales revenue and customer satisfaction. If you'd like assistance in choosing the POS terminal that's right for you, please call TD Canada Trust Merchant Services at Our full-service checklist From installation to maintenance and support,TD Canada Trust is committed to offering merchants a comprehensive package of point-of-sale (POS) terminal support services, including:
