Cookies
What is a "cookie"?
A Cookie is a small file containing certain pieces of information that a Web site creates when you visit the site. Cookies can track how and when you use a site, and which site you visited immediately before, and they can store that information about you.
What cookies cannot do.
Cookies cannot read your hard drive and they cannot access files and information stored on your computer. They cannot reveal anything about you that you have not chosen to enter as user on the site. For example, TD Canada Trust may keep track of your language preference by use of a pop up message, so that each time you visit the site, your language of choice appears.
How does TD Canada Trust use cookies?
The two types of cookies that TD Canada Trust uses are "persistent cookies" and "session cookies". Session cookies only last as long as you are logged in or have your browser open. Permanent cookies are stored on your computer for use the next time you visit the site.
Session Cookies
TD Canada Trust uses session cookies as an additional security feature for its EasyWeb online services. For example, when you login to EasyWeb and are authenticated through your Connect ID/Access Card number and password, a cookie will store the identification number of your browser. Throughout your session, the session cookie acts as a type of digital signature to identify your current session to the Web Server. We also use session cookies to track your visits within our site, in order to determine the type of information that you are looking for and to improve our site.
Persistent Cookies
TD Canada Trust uses persistent cookies to store non-sensitive information that you are aware of and have agreed to. For example, if you choose the option on our login screen to remember your Connect ID or Access Card number for EasyWeb or WebBroker, the system will remember and automatically input this information each time you use the service from that PC.
Do I have to accept cookies?
Currently, most browsers do not distinguish between session cookies and persistent cookies. For EasyWeb services to operate, your browser must be set to accept cookies. If you are concerned about having your browser enabled to accept cookies while you are surfing other Web sites, we recommend that you enable your browser to notify you when it is receiving a cookie. This gives you the ability of accepting or rejecting any cookie presented by the Web site you are visiting.
