What is Tax Payment & Filing?

Tax Payment & Filing is a service provided to business customers to initiate tax payments such as payroll source deductions, GST, PST and HST payments and corporate income tax online1. For each payment, you will specify the amount, the recipient and the payment date. Your TD Canada Trust account will be debited for the amount specified and sent to the recipient on the payment date2.

What are the minimum system requirements to access Tax Payment & Filing?

To access the Tax Payment & Filing service, the minimum system requirements are as follows:

  • Windows 98, 2000, NT, ME or XP operating system:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) version 5.5 Service Pack 2 (SP2) or higher

  • Netscape Navigator version 4.7 or higher

    How do I access the Tax Payment & Filing Service?

    Select the 'Tax Payment & Filing' option from the left hand navigation menu. Then follow the prompts.

    How do I navigate within the Tax Payment & Filing Main Menu?

    The Tax Payment & Filing Main Menu provides you with the options to:

  • Add, change or delete payment types

  • Make a payment

  • View/cancel post-dated transactions

  • View transaction history

  • Change profile
  • When you have completed making your tax payments and wish to view your accounts, select 'View Accounts'.

    Who can I pay & file taxes to?

    The recipient list details all the payment types that are available. Occasionally, a new payment type will be added to the list and a message to advise you will display on the Tax Payment & Filing Main Menu.

    How do I add (register) a payment type?

    To pay or file a tax payment, you must first add the payment type:

    1. Select 'Add Payment Type'

    2. On the 'Add Payment Type' screen, select a payment type from the drop down menu

    3. Then select 'Next'

    4. Complete the required fields.

    Note: Most payment types require only the tax payment account number and date. For example, choose Federal Payroll Deductions twice monthly and enter the account number that is on your stub.

    Once you have entered the payment details, a confirmation screen will appear showing the name of the payment, the account number and the payment frequency. You can now pay this tax or add another payment type.

    How do I make a payment?

    On the Tax Payment & Filing Main Menu, you will see a list of all the payment types that you have previously added. To make a payment:

    1. Select the payment type you wish to pay

    2. Then select 'Make a payment'

    3. The 'Make a Payment - Specify Details' screen will display a drop down list

    4. Select an account you wish to pay from by the drop down list

    5. Complete the information in the required fields

    6. Then select 'Pay'.

  • Note: Once you have selected 'Pay', the transaction is completed. If you made an error, you must cancel the payment and re-enter the details.

  • Record the confirmation number for reconciling the payment to your TD Canada Trust account statement.

  • Note: If you enter a date that is not a business day, the system will default to the next business day.

    My payment is due on the 15th. When do I need to enter this payment?

    Payments must be made before midnight (local time) one business day before the due date. Payments entered on the due date will be late and may be subject to government penalties.

    Monday - Friday before 11:59 p.m. local time Before 11:59 p.m. on the day before the due date (e.g. If payment due on Wednesday, payment must be entered on Tuesday).
    Saturday - Sunday before 11:59 p.m. local time Before 11:59 p.m. on Sunday. Tax payments due Saturday & Sunday automatically become due on Monday.
    Statutory holiday before 11:59 p.m. local time Before 11:59 p.m., the day before the due date (e.g. Wednesday). Tax payments due on a statutory holiday (e.g. Wednesday) automatically become due on the next business day (e.g. Thursday).
    For example: If your payment is due on the 15th, it must be entered before midnight on the 14th.

    For payments due on a weekend or holiday, the payment due date is the next business date. The payment must be entered before midnight (local time) on the day before the due date.

    For example: If the payment is due on the 15th and the 15th is a Saturday, then the system will change the due date to the 17th (next business day). The new due date is the 17th and you have until midnight (local time) on the 16th to enter the payment.

    When are my payments processed to my TD Canada Trust account?

    Payments are processed to your TD Canada Trust account on the specified payment date.

    For example:
    If your payment is due on the 15th and you entered the payment on the 14th, this payment will be processed to your TD Canada Trust account on the 15th.

    It is your responsibility to ensure sufficient funds are in your TD Canada Trust account on the payment due date. If funds are not available, the payment will not be processed. You may be subject to government penalties and TD Canada Trust service fees. If funds are deposited into your account at a later date, the missed payment will not be processed. You will need to initiate another payment.

    How do I cancel a transaction?

    From the Tax Payment & Filing Main Menu:

    1. Select the 'View/Cancel Future Dated Transactions'link

    2. Complete a payment search, by specifying the necessary payment information

    3. Then select the payment you wish to cancel

    4. Record the confirmation number for your files

    Note:


      1. the original payment with a 'Cancelled' status
      2. the cancellation request for that payment

    How do I reverse a payment?

    To reverse a payment that has not yet been processed through your account, and provided that your request is one day before the due date, refer to 'How do I cancel a transaction?'

    To reverse a payment on the payment due date or if the payment has been processed to your account, contact the government agency to which the payment was made.

    Can I post-date a payment?

    You can post-date your payments up to a maximum of one year. The payment will be processed on the specified payment date. It is your responsibility to ensure sufficient funds are in your account on the specified payment date. If funds are not available, the payment will not be processed. You may be subject to government penalties and TD Canada Trust service fees. If funds are deposited into your account at a later date, the missed payment will not be processed. You will need to initiate another payment.

    How do I view any post-dated transactions?

    From the Tax Payment & Filing Main Menu:

    1. Select the 'View/Cancel Future Dated Transactions' link

    2. Enter the search criteria, such as dollar amount, date/date range and confirmation number

    3. Select the transaction you wish to view the details

    To cancel a transaction, refer to 'How do I cancel a transaction?'

    How do I view my transaction history?

    From the Tax Payment & Filing Main Menu:

    1. Select the 'View Transaction History' link

    2. Enter the search criteria, such as dollar amount, date/date range and confirmation number

    Note: If there are more than 200 transactions, you can narrow your search by changing the date range.

    All transactions are available online for 13 months from the payment date.

    How do I change my profile?

    From the Tax Payment & Filing Main Menu:

    1. Select the 'Modify Profile' link

    2. On the 'Modify Profile - Request' screen, you can change any field on the screen

    3. Select 'Save Changes'

    The changes will take effect the next time you use the Tax Payment & Filing service.

    Please note that changing the 'Profile / Billing Language' from English to French or vice versa, will change the language displayed in the Tax Payment & Filing service.

    How do I change the payment type?

    From the Tax Payment & Filing Main Menu:

    1. Select the payment type you wish to edit

    2. Then select 'Edit Payment Type'

    3. On the 'Edit Payment Type - Specify Details' screen, make your changes

    4. Select 'Save Changes'

    How do I delete a payment type?

    From the Tax Payment & Filing Main Menu:

    1. Select the payment type you wish to delete

    2. Then select 'Remove Payment Type'

    3. On the 'Remove Payment Type - Specify Details' screen, select the payment type again

    4. Then select 'Remove Payment Type'

    Note: If there are any post-dated payments for this payment type, you must cancel the payments before you delete the payment type.

    Is there a fee to use this service?

    Registration is free and there is no monthly fee. However, each payment is $2 and your TD Canada Trust account will be charged monthly.
