CAIS FAQ
What are the deadlines for opening a CAIS program account?
Your TD Canada Trust CAIS program account is available as of January 2004. The deadline for a deposit to your CAIS program account can be found on your Option Notice.
Will I receive a T5 for the interest income earned?
Yes, a T5 will be issued to you annually.
Will my NISA Fund 2 be eliminated when NISA is replaced with the CAIS program?
No, it will not. You will continue to have access to the existing government funds in your Fund 2 account, and new rules are in place that give you access to your account once your 2002 NISA application is processed. These new rules make it easier for you to wind down your existing NISA account. They will also give you more options and flexibility in terms of your tax planning.
When do I close out my NISA account?
By March 31, 2005, you will need to take out a minimum of 20% of your account balance as it stood on March 31, 2004. The deadline to withdraw all funds and close your account is March 31, 2009.
For more information about winding down your NISA account, refer to the NISA Contact Newsletter.
