Term Deposits are well-suited to short-term savings goals such as a car or home purchase but also allow for long-term savings with access in the event that funds are urgently required. The rate is set on the last business day of each month and takes effect the following day. You have the ability to redeem this GIC after 30 days without penalty. This investment features a 5-year term with an annual interest rate that increases on each anniversary date. But you also get the option of redeeming all or a portion of your investment on each anniversary date of the purchase of your GIC. Short-Term Option
The minimum investment in a TFSA or outside of an RSP is $5000 and you can choose a term from 30 to 364 days. Within your RSP, RESP or RIF , the minimum investment is $2000 and you can choose a term from 90 to 364 days. Interest is paid at maturity.

Long-Term Option
The minimum investment in a TFSA or outside of an RSP is $1,000 and you can choose a term of 1 to 5 years. Within your RSP, RESP or RIF the minimum investment is $500. Interest can be paid in one of three ways: compounded annually and paid at maturity; paid out semi-annually and at maturity; paid out annually and at maturity. Please note that for a minimum investment amount of $5,000 or more in a TFSA or non-registered GIC, you can choose to receive your interest payments on a monthly basis. This investment cannot be cashed prior to maturity (cashable for RESP/RIF payments only).

US Dollar Term Deposits can be excellent investments for your short-term savings goals. These deposits are cashable fixed term investments paying a competitive rate of interest that is guaranteed for the duration of the term. For a minimum investment of $5,000, you can choose a term from 30 to 364 days. For terms less than 30 days, a minimum investment of $100,000 is required. US Dollar Term Deposits are well suited to short-term savings goals such as a long-awaited vacation.

Interest on US Dollar Term Deposits is calculated on the principal amount and is paid at maturity. There is no withholding tax for non-residents.
